ACCELERATING DEVELOPMENT: INSIGHTS FROM THE 2ND WAKISO INVESTMENT CONFERENCE 2023

Wakiso, formerly part of Mpigi District, attained district status in 2000 and now boasts a population of over 3 million. With real estate and agriculture as its primary economic activities, Wakiso District recently presented a budget estimate of 100 trillion for the financial year 2022/23 during a council meeting held at the District headquarters on June 15, 2022.

In a significant event, the 2nd Wakiso Investment Conference 2023 took place at Peniel Beach Entebbe, bringing together representatives from ministries, water bodies, investors, and more to discuss crucial matters that would propel development in the district.

Chaired by the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Hon. Nobert Mao, the conference focused on curative approaches to highlight investment potentials in Wakiso District, recognizing its importance in the broader development landscape.

During the conference, Ms. Hellen Ejang, the Senior Manager of the Kampala Water Western zone at the National Water and Sewerage Corporation-Kampala Water, emphasized the corporation’s vital mission of providing water for all. Representing Eng Mahmood Lutaaya, the General Manager of Kampala Water, Ms. Ejang assured attendees of quality and reliable services and pledged the corporation’s support for development initiatives.

Ms. Ejang also expressed concern about the timely payment of water bills, highlighting that it hinders the provision of services to the population. This issue underscores the need for efficient and timely payment processes to ensure continued access to water resources.

The conference witnessed the participation of notable individuals, including the State Minister for Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, Hon. Fred Bwino Kyakulaga, the Minister for Kampala, Hon. Kyofatogabye, Hon. Dennis Ssozi Galabuzi, Executive Director of the National Planning Authority and Prime Minister for Busoga Kingdom, Rt. Hon. Joseph Muvawala, CAO-Wakiso District, Mr. Alfred Malinga, Executive Director of UIA, Dr. Maggie Kigozi, Network Manager-WEZ, Moses Nandigobe, and PE Sarah Mbeiza.

The gathering of such esteemed individuals and organizations highlights the collaborative efforts being made to drive development in Wakiso District. With a focus on harnessing investment potentials, the conference served as a platform for strategic discussions and the exploration of opportunities for sustainable growth.
