The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) is on a mission to save the environment through its Tree Planting Campaign which will commence in 2021.
With a target of planting at least 10 million trees by 2023 under the theme, “A Tree Planted, a Future Granted,” the NWSC Treevolution is one of the country’s biggest go-green campaigns. This initiative aims to tackle the adverse effects of climate change and variability, which have had a significant impact on water bodies, constraining NWSC’s raw water extraction and affecting its supply reliability, leading to customer dissatisfaction.
In the same spirit, as part of its Environmental Protection and Climate Change Management Policy, the Church of Uganda is keen to join hands with NWSC in this important initiative. Recently, Rev. Andrew Agaba, a senior clergy member, had a meeting with the campaign’s champion and Senior Manager-Kampala Eastern Zone, Ms. Sarah Namuwenge, to discuss the possibility of this partnership. A concept paper and MOU are in the works, with plans for bishops and other senior clergy members to be involved. Prior to the launch, the Bishops will rendezvous with NWSC to prep.
Impressed by the proposal to partner, Ms. Namuwenge stated that the partnership between NWSC and the Church of Uganda will go a long way in raising awareness and sensitizing the masses about NWSC’s services, projects, and objectives. This partnership will create a platform for NWSC to engage with the public and educate them on the importance of environmental conservation. By planting trees, the partnership aims to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change, conserve natural resources, and promote ecological sustainability.
The Tree Planting Campaign is a commendable initiative that demonstrates NWSC’s commitment to environmental conservation. By partnering with the Church of Uganda, NWSC is taking a step further in promoting environmental conservation and creating awareness about the importance of protecting the planet. The campaign is not only about planting trees but also about changing the attitudes and behaviors of people towards environmental conservation.
This partnership is a step in the right direction as it is a call to action for all of us to embrace sustainable practices and make conscious efforts to protect our planet for future generations. Through this partnership, we can work together to save the environment and build a brighter, more sustainable future for all.
