KATOSI DRINKING WATER TREATMENT PLANT ENSURES SAFETY OF OFFSHORE PIPELINE

The SOGEA SATOM contracted Divers completed the inspection of the Katosi DWTP DN1500mm offshore intake pipeline.

The 2-day long exercise was aimed at tackling any snags closing procedure on the side of the contractor but equally suffices for the routine Annual inspection of this category of installations.

The Katosi DWTP Manager, Eng. Joseph Tweheyo while engaging with the divers was pleased to learn that the whole pipe installation is still intact in position as installed with no obstruction such as fishermen nets and other lake debris. He encouraged the team to always come and use an underwater camera to improve the reporting to clients who never get opportunity to go under the water with them.

The divers also installed an additional 2 floaters to better mark the pipeline location in the lake. The initial 2 other floaters were also checked and anchors tightened for safety.

A plan to mobilize and sensitize the fishermen around the plant is on to ensure the offshore pipeline is kept safe and intake point not obstructed by fishing nets.
