CRACK DOWN ON ILLEGAL WATER USE IN SEETA AND BUGOLOBI: HOPE AGAINST NRW IN KAMPALA WATER

Illegal water use is a major challenge and contributor to Non-Revenue Water (NRW), which causes tremendous revenue loss to the Corporation. Kampala Water in comparison to the other regions, happens to be the greatest habitant of this cancer with over 35% NRW recorded in 2020 alone.

Seeta Branch has recently been a victim of illegal water use with pipes being vandalized to fetch water and a number of fixtures stolen, not so different from the trials reported by the Bugolobi team.

The security team attached to Kampala Water’s Water Loss Prevention Unit was then compelled to launch an investigation into the matter, collaborating with stakeholders within the affected areas of Nabusugwe, Sonde, Kikulu, Namwezi as well as Kiswa – Bugolobi.

Valves were installed on lining unions of accounts suspected of stealing water before the meter.

Conspicuously, the lockable valves can only be opened with a special key that is only accessible by NWSC staff.

Hopefully, this is bound to greatly contribute to the fight against Non-Revenue Water.
