The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) has reached another significant milestone in its efforts to address water supply challenges in Kiryandongo Area, with drilling works officially commencing at two of the three newly identified borehole sites.
The drilling is being carried out by contractors Simadra and ICON, marking a critical step towards increasing water production and improving the reliability of water services for communities across the area. Subject to favourable ground conditions, drilling is expected to be completed within the next four days.
Following the drilling phase, comprehensive pump testing will be undertaken to determine the sustainable yield of each borehole. The results will establish the quantity of groundwater available and provide the technical basis for the next stage of the project, including the design of transmission pipelines and the selection of appropriately sized pumping equipment.
In parallel with the drilling works, NWSC has completed surveys for the extension of electricity to the new borehole sites. The survey will determine the scope of work and associated costs required to connect the sites to the national power grid, with power extension estimates expected later this week.
The borehole development project forms part of NWSC’s broader intervention to provide a sustainable and long-term solution to the water supply constraints currently affecting Kiryandongo Area. By increasing local water production capacity, the Corporation aims to improve service reliability, meet growing customer demand, and strengthen the resilience of the area’s water supply system.
Once the boreholes are fully developed, equipped, and commissioned, they are expected to significantly boost water availability, ensuring more consistent and dependable water services for households, institutions, and businesses throughout Kiryandongo.
