A one Kalungi Ronald has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for stealing a six-meter chain link valued at approximately UGX 200,000 from the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC)’s Nansana East II zone. The verdict, delivered on June 28th, 2024, by Her Worship Ariyokot Esther at Nansana Court, depicted a decisive moment in the pursuit of justice for property crimes against the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) infrastructure.
The case unfolded on November 6th, 2023, and despite pleading not guilty, Kalungi was convicted based on testimonies from NWSC witnesses, including Security operative, Mr. Elly Tumwine and a booster attendant who identified him at the scene. The court considered the value of the stolen government property an aggravating factor, leading to the guilty verdict and subsequent sentence.
State prosecutor Jane Frances, along with NWSC lawyers, Brownie Ebal and Bongomin Emmanuel, played crucial roles in securing the conviction as their collaboration with NWSC’s security department ensured justice was served.
