During the recently concluded Kabaka Birthday Run-2024, the Prime Minister of the Kingdom, Owekitibwa Charles Peter Mayiga visited the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) tent and commended the corporation for its significant role in sponsoring the 11th edition of the Kabaka Birthday Run, specifically for observing the Kabaka of Buganda’s call to aid end the spread of HIV/AIDS.

The event held at the Palace in Mengo, and themed “Men for good health to save the girl child and the fight to end HIV/AIDS by 2030,” served as a platform to drive positive societal change and combat the prevalence of HIV/AIDS in Uganda.

Welcomed by the team leader, and Manager Public Relations for the Kampala Water Metropolitan, Ms. Vivien Newumbe, the Katikiro recognized the corporation’s commitment to improving lives and enhancing Uganda’s living conditions, and also commended NWSC’s efforts in promoting good sanitation practices and ensuring access to clean and safe water, among other initiatives aimed at bettering society.

The annual Kabaka Birthday Run has seen a steady increase in participants, largely due to the generous support from key stakeholders, including government bodies, NGOs, corporate entities like NWSC, and individuals from the Buganda Kingdom who are passionate about their King and the kingdom’s causes, notably the fight against HIV/AIDS.

NWSC’s notable contribution to the run included a generous donation of 5 million Ugandan shillings towards the noble cause whose significant focus is on preventive measures, stressing the importance of regular HIV/AIDS testing, promoting fidelity in relationships, encouraging abstinence, and advocating for physical exercise to reduce the risk of non-communicable diseases.

The event was graced by Nnaalinya Lubuga (Princess Royal), Dr. Agnes Nabaloga, who ceremoniously flagged off participants across various race categories, including 21 kilometers, 10 kilometers, and 5 kilometers; whereas, Prince David Wasajja of Buganda represented the 21 kilometers.
