A delegation from the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), led by Eng. Mujuni Herbert and Eng. Sharon Karungi, alongside Mr. Martin Orwiny, Eng. Ritah Nalumansi, and Mr. Ghona Paul, the Adjumani Area Manager, along with Area Engineer Mr. Otim Tonny, conducted a comprehensive technical handover of proposed project sites under the the Adjumani Water Supply and Sanitation Project.
The focal point of the handover was the transfer of responsibility for the proposed intake, treatment plant, master balancing reservoir, and fecal sludge treatment sites to the contracted entity, China Communications Construction Co. Ltd (CCCC).
Notably, the scope of the project is extensive, encompassing various vital components that may include but are not limited to; A raw water intake with a capacity of 12,000m3/day situated on the River Nile at Arra West village; An 8.8km DN-300mm raw water transmission pipeline connecting the intake to the water treatment plant; A water treatment plant with a capacity of 4,000m3/day, expandable to 8,000m3/day, located at Mijale village; A 10.0km DN300mm treated water transmission pipeline extending from the treatment plant to the elevated steel reservoir in Mokolo village; A reservoir with a capacity of 655m3 in Adjumani town council, and a distribution network comprising 3km of DN 300 uPVC PN10 pipeline from the elevated steel reservoir in Adjumani town council to the existing network.
Additionally, 30km of 110-250mmOD uPVC PN10 gravity flow distribution mains will be established from the elevated steel reservoir in Adjumani town council to existing reservoirs in Pakele town council and Ciforo township, as well as to a new reservoir in Dzaipi township; 12km of DN100-150 pumping mains will be installed from the boreholes to elevated steel reservoirs, with reservoirs of various capacities at Pagirinya, Olua, and Nyumanzi refugee settlements; 19km 110-200mmOD uPVC PN10 borehole water distribution network will be constructed, along with seven sanitation blocks at public places and institutions in Adjumani TC, Pakele Town Councils, Dzaipi, and Ciforo; and finally a faecal sludge treatment plant with a capacity of 3.6m3/day will be established at Amelo in Adjumani Town council.
More to it, proposed sanitation blocks in Adjumani town council, Pakele, Dzaipi, and Ciforo, as well as the land for the proposed faecal sludge treatment plant in Amelo, were also handed over.
Subsequently, the delegation visited Nyumanzi, Olua, and Pagirinya refugee settlements, where proposed borehole sites and reservoir locations were transferred to the contractor. These developments are set to enhance the livelihoods of refugees by providing increased access to clean, safe, potable, and affordable services.
Concluding the day’s activities, a site meeting was convened to review field findings and outline tentative commencement dates for construction works.
