The introduction of pre-paid water meters in National Water and Sewerage Corporation was a great move that aided the corporation in addressing water-related challenges and fostering sustainable water management practices.
As prepaid water meters continue to gain traction in the informal settlements, NWSC is set to add another 2600 prepaid meters to the existing 1400 connections in the informal settlements. This was made known by the General Manager-Kampala Water during a televised talk show on UBC.
Notably, the new meters come with advancements in technology, an ongoing new Integration of smart features, real-time monitoring and hold the promise of further improvements hence community engagement initiatives can contribute to a more efficient and responsive water management system enabling the corporation achieve its agenda of improving services for all Ugandans.
With ongoing support from government, NWSC and community involvement, prepaid water meters are poised to play an even more significant role in ensuring equitable access to water resources while promoting responsible consumption in the Urban Pro-Poor/informal settlements in the greater Kampala Service Area.
