The Training and Capacity Development (TCD), in collaboration with the Directorate of Industrial Training (DIT), have taken a significant step towards enhancing the skills and expertise of their staff. In a recent initiative, they organized a comprehensive four-day Full Occupational Qualifications (FOQ) training program for the Water Quality Control Technicians, aiming to standardize their operations and prepare them for the fifth DIT-NWSC assessments and certification.

The FOQ training program encompassed five critical modules. The first module focused on the precise techniques required to collect samples of water and wastewater, a fundamental aspect of ensuring water quality control. The next module emphasized understanding the proper procedures for sampling water treatment chemicals, crucial for maintaining the integrity of the treatment process.

Technicians also dived into the complexities of setting up and efficiently managing a water treatment laboratory, a vital component of quality control. Understanding the intricacies of the water treatment process was another key aspect of the training, ensuring participants were well-equipped to handle it effectively. Additionally, the importance of accurate chemical testing was emphasized, a key factor in maintaining water quality standards.

The FOQ training was conducted by a team of highly skilled professionals with expertise in Biology, Chemistry, Sewage, and water treatment. This diverse range of trainers ensured that participants received a well-rounded education in their field.

The training program concluded with an inspiring address by Mr. Opedun Peter Mark, who encouraged the participants to apply the knowledge and skills they had gained in their daily operations. “Many have learned, but few have transformed lives,” OPM remarked, emphasizing the need for the participants to be among the few who make a real difference by applying their new skills.

Mr. Opedun also extended his appreciation to the top management, the Bureau of Standards and Safety (BSS), TCD, and the Water Quality Control (WQC) team for their dedication and hard work, which contributed to the success of the FOQ training.

With the knowledge and skills acquired during the FOQ training, they are now better equipped to ensure the safety and quality of the corporation’s water supply. This initiative raises the bar for the team and also sets a standard for the industry as a whole.
