The utility court on 6th April 2021 ruled in favour of NWSC following the proceedings of Uganda Vs Kalyesubula Araphat 541/20. The accused, Kalyesubula Araphat, was arrested on 1 st June 2020 in possession of a National Water meter and its stand in Kirinya by the Defense Secretary of that particular village. After a brief investigation that revealed the location of the meter prior to the crime, the culprit was immediately taken to Kirinya Police post and recorded a statement CRB 088/20. After testimonies from four witnesses thus; the Defense secretary of Kirinya, an NWSC-plumber namely Mr. John Eresu, Kwikiriza Bbale, a police officer attached to Kirinya Police Post and Baringye Caleb, a police officer attached to NWSC, Mr. Kalyesubula was charged with “tampering with infrastructure and meter theft”.

The accused was sentenced to 26 months and two weeks (2 years) for all counts by Her worship Marion Mageni at the Buganda Road Court. Notably, proceedings were conducted through visual video conferencing to maintain the COVID-19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
