The visit was aimed at assessing and monitoring the progress of implementation of the Project, which is part of the several Projects that UDB is funding under the Market Finance.

During their visit, the Team was delighted to see the fruits of their financing, with the Ugx4million liters per day Kalungu Project nearing completion. While taking the Team through a guided tour of the ongoing construction works, the Project Manager, Eng. Denis Taremwa, gave a comprehensive update on the Project’s status, highlighting the achievements todate, challenges encountered, and next course of action. He assured the Team that the Administration Building shall be ready for occupation by the Kalungu staff at the end of July, while testing of the Intake and WTP is slated for end of August 2024.

The UDB Team expressed profound satisfaction with the progress observed, and praised the Corporation’s Managing Director, Dr. Eng. Silver Mugisha for his visionary leadership, and especially for championing the in-house design and execution approach for Projects, which has quickened the implementation process and significantly reduced on the Project costs, while promoting local content. They further commended the Project’s potential to transform the local community, and acknowledged this infrastructure financing and implementation approach as a game-changer that is worth emulating by other Government Agencies.

“We are thrilled to see the Project’s progress and are confident that it will meet its intended goals,” said Mr. Maitum. “We are proud to be associated with NWSC in this Financing Pact, and look forward to the successful completion of all the Projects under the ongoing Portfolio.”

In his remarks, the Project Manager intimated that UDB’s support has been crucial in achieving these milestones, and looked forward to furthering the NWSC-UDB collaboration to address the ever growing Infrastructure needs. He informed the Team that NWSC had completed preparing a 10-Year Capital Investment Plan covering all its Operational Areas, and was in need of Partners to provide sustainable and long-term financing for the Programme.

He concluded by thanking UDB for its invaluable support and such visits, which underscore the mutual commitment to excellence and innovation. “We look forward to continuing this partnership and achieving even greater milestones together.” he affirmed.

Note that, under the ongoing Market Finance, totaling Ugx90Billion, NWSC is implementing other similar Projects in the Towns of Lyantonde, Kanungu, Bushenyi, Lira, Kyakwazi, and Soroti, among others, which are all at various stages of completion.
