In the relentless pursuit of optimizing operational efficiency and service delivery, the National water and sewerage corporation (NWSC) has made the strategic move to shutdown Ggaba 2, and 3 facilities scheduled for tomorrow, the 7th of December, 2023. This proactive measure is geared towards meticulous maintenance and performance enhancement aimed to ensure that the water treatment infrastructure operates at peak proficiency to meet the ever-growing demands of the greater Kampala Metropolitan.

In an exclusive interview, Kampala Water’s Senior Manager of Water Production, Eng Andrew Muhwezi elucidated that the upcoming shutdown is strategically orchestrated to facilitate essential maintenance and enhancement of the transmission line infrastructure.

Eng. Muhwezi went ahead and highlighted that the temporary cessation of operations at Ggaba 2, and 3 water treatment plants is to provide the technical team with an opportune window to repair leakages on Ggaba 2 and 3, cleanup the Gun hill reservoir, inspect under water installations, major servicing of electro-mechanical equipment and many more.

The anticipated duration of maintenance work at the plant is estimated to be 12 hours and work is to commence at 7am.  Residents in several areas of the central business district, Buziga, Munyonyo, Bombo Road, Kansanga, Makindye, some parts of Mutungo, Jinja road, Nsambya, Bunga, Mengo Hill, Nakawa and surrounding areas are likely to experience temporary disruptions in water supply due to the planned shutdown.

In alignment with the corporation’s vision of delivering unparalleled service to ensure customer satisfaction, Ms. Vivien Newumbe, the manager Public Relations Office-Kampala water, earnestly encourages esteemed customers to be proactive in managing their water consumption.

“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and appreciate the understanding and cooperation of the affected communities as we diligently work to enhance the overall integrity of our water treatment and distribution systems”, she stated.
