STAKEHOLDERS ASSEMBLE IN MBALE TO STRENGTHEN WATER AND SANITATION SERVICES

The Eastern Region’s key water and sanitation stakeholders gathered on May 28th, 2025 at the Ministry of Water and Environment (MWE) Regional Centre in Mbale for the District Water and Sanitation Coordination Committee (DW&SCC) meeting, to reaffirm their collective commitment to improving water service delivery across the district.

Representing the General Manager for the National Water & Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) –Mbale, the Area Engineer Mr. Magomu W. Ivan joined representatives from Water Aid, Innovation Africa, Eastern Umbrella, Water For People, Water Mission, the Mbale District Local Government, and officials from MWE and local political leadership for a robust exchange on performance, challenges, and priorities.

The meeting provided a platform for implementing partners to present their quarterly progress reports, detailing milestones, ongoing interventions, and hurdles encountered on the ground. These reports were critically reviewed, with stakeholders engaging in open discussion aimed at finding practical, coordinated solutions.

Meanwhile, NWSC Mbale received praise for its consistent delivery of services and for the professionalism with which customer queries are addressed, and that the corporation’s mere presence at the meeting reflected its continued commitment to stakeholder engagement and transparency.

Among the key resolutions adopted were improvements in communication between district and city-level actors, enhanced routine water quality monitoring, and better mechanisms for reporting and responding to leaks. The committee also emphasized the need for stronger partnerships with security agencies to tackle vandalism and meter theft, and for intensified community sensitization around water safety and responsible usage.

By close of the meeting, all parties had come to a consensus to work together towards sustainable, safe, and accessible water services for the people of Mbale.
