Soroti water treatment plant was rehabilitated in 2006 with a 15-year design horizon which can no longer meet the current demand as the population and supply area has grown to include Amuria, Kaberamaido and surrounding areas.
However, the plant will soon be upgraded to a capacity of 10000 cubics per day from the current 7500 which will not only guarantee an increase in supply but also sustain it.
The scope of works which are majorly within the service coverage area include; upgrading the raw water intake pump house, pipe interconnection and electromechanical equipment, construction of a 2500 cubics per day water treatment line at Awoja water treatment plant,
restructuring the distribution main with associated pipework fittings and civil works.
During an onsite pre-bid meeting for contractors, NWSC informed the bidders of what is expected of them i.e: time management to the bid opening, the evaluation criteria, forgery of bid requirements and the likely implications.
NWSC is at the final stages of sourcing a contractor for the upgrade of the treatment plant, which will meet the growing demand for water in the area.
