In a recent collaborative effort, Rotaract Clubs across the Greater Kampala Metropolitan rendezvoused for their annual outreach activities, converging at the National Water and Sewerage Corporation’s (NWSC) Katosi Drinking Water Treatment Plant (DWTP) to acknowledge and commend the corporation’s dedication to ensuring safe and clean water distribution in Uganda.

Led by Mr. Alex Kayinga, the teams, comprising members from clubs such as Kigo, Kampala Muyenga Breeze, Kajjansi, Victoria University, Rubaga Lake View, and Nkumba Stewards, embarked on a comprehensive tour of the plant under the guidance of Eng. Joseph Tweheyo, the plant manager who provided valuable insights into the intricate processes of raw water collection, treatment, and the efficient pumping of water to reservoirs.

The visit also featured an introduction to the innovative SCADA system, which provoked excitement among the participants. Mr. Kayinga, leading the team, expressed deep appreciation for NWSC’s outstanding efforts in providing clean water. He particularly commended the corporation’s commitment to ensuring affordability, recognizing the complexities involved in the entire water treatment process.

Following the informative tour, the teams actively engaged in tree planting initiatives, aligning with their collective mission to safeguard the environment and protect Uganda from the adverse effects of environmental mismanagement, including floods. Their commitment extended beyond this event, as they pledged ongoing collaboration with NWSC, emphasizing their dedication to championing environmental protection and conservation.

A significant aspect of this partnership involved a pledge to serve as ambassadors, advocating for timely settlement of water bills among customers, once enlightened about the intricacies and costs associated with the water treatment process. Mr. Tweheyo expressed gratitude for this commitment, underscoring the importance of safeguarding water sources and acknowledging the substantial financial investments made by NWSC in water treatment.

The culmination of this impactful collaboration was marked by a presentation of certificates. NWSC received recognition for their unwavering commitment to community service, with specific acknowledgment given to Eng. Tweheyo for embodying the spirit of service above self. The Katosi DWTP team was also lauded for their outstanding contributions to the shared cause, highlighting the significance of this partnership in advancing water access and environmental sustainability.

It is in order to say that the collaboration between Rotaract Clubs and NWSC in their shared commitment to community welfare, environmental conservation, and clean water accessibility stands strong as a power house in fostering positive change.
