In a move geared towards reinforcing integrity and elevating operational efficiency, Kampala Water has unveiled a series of strategic changes set to redefine the landscape of water operations in the region. The announcement, made by the General Manager, Eng. Mahmood Lutaaya, depicts a commitment to address challenges and usher in a new era of even better professionalism within the organization.
Recognizing the critical role that integrity plays in business performance, Eng. Lutaaya initiated a paradigm shift by proposing significant alterations to individual Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Effective from January 2024, Network Zonal Managers and Branch Engineers will now play a significant role in overseeing the District Metered Areas (DMAs), emphasizing thorough installation and vigilant monitoring.
A primary focus of the strategic overhaul is the reduction of Non-Revenue Water (NRW). Eng. Lutaaya delegated the responsibility of metering and safeguarding all fire hydrants in Kampala Metropolitan to section heads, with a specific emphasis on preventing abuse by bulk water sellers. Proactive planning for the re-allocation of hydrants before the year’s end has been set in motion to ensure a seamless initiation of the process in the upcoming year.
Ahead of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit, the General Manager stressed the significance of maintaining a steady water supply. Eng. Lutaaya tasked the Quality Water Team with collaborating closely with branches to conduct training sessions. These sessions aim to equip branch teams with the skills necessary to efficiently test water, streamline operational processes, and swiftly identify any illegal activities, particularly in cases where customers claim alternative water sources.
As the holiday season approaches, Eng. Lutaaya charged supervisors with ensuring standby teams are well-prepared to handle any emergencies that may arise. Concluding his message, he reiterated the organization’s core values: exemplary customer care and the delivery of high-quality services, emphasizing their paramount importance in sustaining the corporation’s reputation.
With these strategic initiatives firmly in place, Kampala Water anticipates not only a festive season marked by efficiency but also a promising start to the upcoming year. The comprehensive approach aims to foster integrity, stimulate business growth, and strengthen the organization’s commitment to providing high-quality services to the community.
