The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) recently conducted an exhaustive inspection of the Integrated Water Management and Development Project (IWMDP) in Mbale. Leading the inspection was Mr. Ekanya Emmanuel, Senior Manager Operations for the Eastern Region.

Accompanied by Senior Engineer Collins Bossa and guided by the General Manager for Mbale Area, Mr. Badru Wandwasi, along with Principle Public Relations Officer Doreen Kapsulel, the team thoroughly reviewed the project sites with the aim of assessing the progress of the IWMDP, a significant initiative aimed at transforming water supply and sanitation services in Mbale City and its neighboring towns.

The inspection focused on key components of the project, including the project pipeline, water intake, and water treatment plant sites in Bufumbo. The team meticulously paid attention to detail to ensure that the project adheres to the highest standards of quality and efficiency. This attention to detail is vital, given the project’s significance in addressing the water and sanitation needs of a rapidly growing population.

The IWMDP, a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Water and Environment (MW&E) and NWSC, with funding from the World Bank, is designed to significantly enhance the region’s water supply and sanitation services. The project extends its benefits beyond Mbale City to the surrounding towns of Butaleja, Busolwe, Budaka, Kadama, Kibuku, and Tirinyi. The scope of the project also includes source protection activities, which are essential for safeguarding the region’s water sources for future generations.

Mr. Ekanya Emmanuel commended the progress made thus far and expressed optimism that the IWMDP will meet the growing demand for water and sewerage services in the region.
