Nansana Municipality is home to a growing population that has frequently experienced intermittent water supply or no water at all. During dry months such as January, the situation becomes even worse, with high-altitude areas like Kibwa, Kyebando, and Katooke being the most affected. Due to water scarcity, the community often resorts to alternative sources like swamps, ponds, and boreholes, sharing water with domestic animals and exposing themselves to water-borne diseases.
Against this background, the National Water and Sewerage Corporation’s Kampala Water region implemented the Kasubi-Nansana Water Supply Improvement Project to address the water scarcity problem.
The project involved laying 4.9 kilometers of DN300/250 from Kabusi to Nansana water tank via the booster and upgrading the high lift pump from 150m3/hr. to 300m3/hr.
This was fully funded by NWSC and is now benefiting seven villages: Nansana-Kibwa, Masitowa, Kabumbi, Ganda-Kyebando, Yesu Amala, Kinyarwanda, and Nabweru among others.
Residents have praised NWSC-KW for the significant relief that comes with access to clean and safe water. With the project’s successful implementation, the community will no longer have to resort to alternative water sources that expose them to health risks, making NWSC a vital player in sustainable development.
