The Busowa Water Project is set to bring clean water to over 21,000 residents across nine villages in the Bugiri area., and now in its final stages, the project promises to enhance access to safe drinking water for these communities.
Funded by the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), the project features two high-capacity boreholes: one in Lwaba, with a yield of 15 cubic meters per hour, and another in Kinabirye, producing 70 cubic meters per hour. These boreholes are connected via extensive transmission lines_5.4 kilometers and 4.2 kilometers of 6-inch uPVC pipes respectively, that link to the Bugiri tank and Kyinabirye village.
The infrastructure also includes two pump houses, a sump, and a 7-kilometer main distribution network made of 2-inch HDPE PN10 pipes. Currently, the ancillary infrastructure such as fittings and valve chambers is 80% complete however, power extension works are still in progress to support these facilities.
On June 19th, 2024 a team from the NWSC Regional Office, led by the Senior Manager of Operations Central Region (SMOPs Central), Engineer Moses Bigabwa, inspected the project’s progress, and evaluated the completeness, quality, and any challenges faced during implementation. Eng. Bigabwa expressed satisfaction with the work done so far and praised the team for their dedication. He also emphasized the importance of preparing for efficient management and seamless operations once the project is completed.
