8th of March 2021 is internationally recognized as Women’s day in more than 60 countries. For this particular year, the theme that guided National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) focused on, “Women and girls taking the lead in Environmental Sustainability.”  The NWSC through her Professional Women for Water and Sanitation Association in partnership with the NWSC School Water and Sanitation (SWAS) Clubs carried out extensive tree planting activities in King’s College Budo and Gayaza High School to commemorate the International Women’s Day 2021

The days’ activities included engaging the students in conversations around climate change and environmental protection and Tree planting of 500 tree seedlings at the schools.  The Gayaza High School Director of Studies Ms. Rebecca Kampumurie, was pleased with NWSC for choosing Gayaza High School among the many schools. She was also grateful for the hand washing points that were donated earlier and pledged to look after the trees planted to ensure they are well nurtured and provide healthy fruits.

The SWAS club patron, King’s College Budo extended his thanks to NWSC for the tree planting initiative and thanked the corporation for the Water tank that was given to the school on behalf of the SWAS club. He pledged continued relationship with NWSC intimating his gratitude for the several years of collaboration that saw NWSC put up wash rooms in the school.

The NWSC team visiting the schools thanked the SWAS club members for the good work done. The students were urged to each plant a tree and protect the environment.

The Director Business and Scientific Services NWSC, Dr. Rose Kaggwa, an old girl of Gayaza High school was happy to be back to the school on this special day. “This Women’s Day, think of the environment, because it’s from the environment that we get water.”- she said. Dr. Rose emphasized the need to green the environment we live in by planting trees and nurturing them.

Mrs Sylvia Tumuhairwe Alinaitwe the DMD Finance and Corporate Strategy at NWSC who also doubles as the patron for the SWAS Clubs, while visiting Kings College Budo,

Emphasized to the students to always make good choices concerning their health. While communicating to the students she noted that WOMAN represents W for Wheel of the family, O for Ocean of knowledge, M for Mirror of Children, A for Address of love and N for Nurturer. It was mentioned that men should not be neglected and that without their support, our wheel of change would not have moved as fast.

The two schools Gayaza High School and Kings College Budo together provided over 5 acres of land for tree planting.
