KAMPALA, UGANDA – The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), Africa’s leading water utility, has made significant strides in enhancing its operations and service delivery through its partnership with Waterworx VEI. This collaboration birthed the Waterworxs WOP-Uganda project whose first phase has led to the development of a comprehensive asset management system, energy-saving programs, and capacity building initiatives, among others.

Recently during a visit from the VEI team to the corporation, the NWSC’s Managing Director, Dr. Eng Silver Mugisha, commended the partnership, stating that it has been a cornerstone of success for the corporation, leading to tangible improvements in individual capabilities, leadership management, and technical engineering solutions among staff members.

The VEI team, led by CEO Mr. Toine Ramaker, expressed appreciation for NWSC’s adoption of technology and commitment to capacity development and business intelligence.

Note that the partnership has focused on strengthening operations through initiatives such as the Asset Management Information Systems-Mapkit, Water and Sanitation infrastructure investment projects, and borehole sighting and supervision.

Efforts are also being made to reduce Non-Revenue Water (NRW) in the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area and improve Sewerage Services. To advance the development arrangements, the steering committee for the Waterworx Phase 2 WOP-Uganda project convened at the NWSC’s International Resource Center (IREC). Chaired by Dr. Rose Kaggwa, Senior Director of Business and Scientific Solutions, the committee engaged in discussions covering various aspects of the ongoing program including; GIS upgrades, CMMS development, borehole installation, NRW analysis, climate change adaptation, and enhancements in sewerage management within communities.

Attendees included; Eng. Johnson Amayo, NWSC DMD-Technical Services; Eng. Mahmood Lutaaya, General Manager of Kampala Water; Dr. Frank Kizito, Senior Manager of GIS Kampala Water; Ms. Zainab Mpakiraba; Eng. Moses Bigabwa; Eng. Jude Mwoga, among others.

The NWSC-VEI partnership has without a doubt led to significant growth for both the corporation and the nation, with NWSC serving as a hub for knowledge sharing and benchmarking in the water and utility sector in Uganda, and Africa as a whole.
