NWSC UGANDA – NWSC ZAMBIA FLAG OFF CAPACITY BUILDING PROJECT

The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) Uganda has flagged off a partnership for capacity development of Nkana Water, Zambia.

The project; Strengthening Equitable Water and Sanitation Services (SEWATSAN), is designed to improve service delivery in Nkana Water and Sanitation Company, Zambia.

The Water Operators Partnership is funded by the European Union and led by UN Habitat’s GWOPA

At the project launch in Kitwe, Zambia, Chief Guest Lawrence Mwanza, the district commissioner Kitwe District commended NWSC Uganda for the tremendous strides made towards water for all in Uganda.

Mr. Lawrence Mwanza said that the partnership will help increase service delivery and improved livelihoods for the people in Nkana service area.

He appreciated the European Union for the funding, the people of Uganda and NWSC- Uganda for offering itself to mentor other institutions on the African Continent.

“NWSC Zambia and NWSC Uganda share similar abbreviations and calling for service delivery, no wonder they were attracted to each other.” he said

Malupenga Peter, Vice Chair Nkana Water Board of Directors applauded the WOP partnership.

He commended Nkana water for sourcing support from NWSC Uganda and the EU for the financial support.

“Capacity Building is an important tool for improvement of organization effectiveness and service delivery.”he added

NWSC-Zambia Managing Director Mrs Diana Makwaba appreciated the historic partnership between NWSC- Zambia and NWSC Uganda over the years.

“We have been given a new mandate to expand our Sanitation footprint. With NWSC on board and their vast experience, we are energized to deliver the new mandate, and address a couple of other sector related challenges .” she said

She appreciated NWSC for the selfless action and choosing to mentor Nkana water and the EU for the funding.

NWSC Mission Leader/ Institutional Development Expert, and Director Business and Scientific Services, Dr. Rose Kaggwa shared NWSC’s past relationship with Nkana that started in the early 2000s.

She presented the NWSC transformational story, lessons and experiences over the years.

Dr. Kaggwa shared an overview of the WOP project, objectives and expected results.
She highlighted NWSC-Uganda’s past relationship with Nkana Water.

According to Dr. Kaggwa, the rationale between the two utilities is a cultural fit, Trust, Mutual respect and Transparency.

Dr. Kaggwa reiterated that the WOP is a medium towards the achievement of SDG6 On the African continent and committed NWSC- Uganda’s passion for the transformation of the Water and Sanitation sector, in Africa.

The NWSC team included; Zainab Mpakiraba the Monitoring and Evaluation Expert and John Bsoco Otema, a Pro Poor Services expert.
