In a promising development, the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) is gearing up to host a significant event that could bolster Uganda’s reputation as a leader in water management. A recent meeting between NWSC and representatives from the Congolese NGO ONGD Blessing has laid the groundwork for a potential partnership aimed at organizing a conference in Kampala. This event is designed not only to highlight Uganda’s achievements in providing greater access to fresh water but also to position the country as a model for others to emulate.

The discussions between NWSC and ONGD Blessing centered on various aspects of this collaborative endeavor. One of the key objectives is to strengthen the ties between Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) by showcasing Uganda’s expertise in water management. This partnership aims to improve relationships between the two countries while sharing invaluable knowledge.

The upcoming conference will not be limited to discussions alone; it will also feature an exhibition, and this platform will provide NWSC, engineering companies, and sectoral service providers with an opportunity to showcase their innovative products, share vital information, and present solutions related to water management.

Eng. Johnson Amayo, the Deputy Managing Director of Technical Services at NWSC, has been at the forefront of these discussions. He emphasized the need to formalize, streamline, and rationalize collaboration between the Congolese NGO, NWSC, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In addition to this, he outlined practical solutions and terms of reference for the partnership.

A fundamental aspect of the discussions revolved around the conference’s focus areas. This included defining the operating framework, identifying target beneficiaries, mobilizing participants from various sectors, setting tentative dates, and addressing financial considerations. The team also dived into the intricacies of composition and budgeting.

It’s worth noting that Kampala, Uganda, has been selected as the host city for the African Water Association (AfWA) Congress and Exhibition in 2025. This announcement comes after NWSC successfully hosted the AfWA Congress and Exhibition in 2020, marking its 40th anniversary in the water and sanitation sector.

The aforementioned collaboration between NWSC and ONGD Blessing holds great promise for Uganda’s water management sector. This upcoming conference not only aims to showcase Uganda’s achievements but also to foster closer ties with neighboring countries. With a strong track record in organizing major events, NWSC is well-equipped to make this conference a resounding success.
