The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) Legal Department’s Litigation Unit appeared in court on February 25, 2026, as the case of Uganda vs. Jakisa Collins continued before the Makindye Utility Court. The accused is facing charges of tampering with NWSC works and unlawful water consumption, contrary to Section 97 of the Water Act, Cap 164.

Led by Counsel Brownie Ebal, the NWSC team comprising Counsel Kakuru Thomas, Counsel Bongomin Emmanuel, and Security Officer Mr. Elly Muhumuza was present as the defence presented its case and called two witnesses. The court subsequently adjourned the matter to March 11, 2026, for mention.

The case underscores NWSC’s firm commitment to protecting its infrastructure and combating water vandalism. Such illegal activities not only damage vital infrastructure but also disrupt service delivery and lead to significant revenue losses.

“We will not tolerate any acts that compromise the integrity of our systems,” said Counsel Ebal. “NWSC remains committed to safeguarding its infrastructure to ensure that customers continue to receive reliable and uninterrupted water services.”

Water vandalism remains a significant challenge, with perpetrators causing millions of shillings in losses annually. NWSC continues to work closely with law enforcement agencies and the judiciary to track down offenders and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.

“We appreciate the support of the judiciary and law enforcement in addressing this issue,” Counsel Ebal added. “We hope that this case will serve as a deterrent to individuals who may be tempted to engage in acts of water vandalism.”

The outcome of the case is expected to contribute to strengthening enforcement efforts against water vandalism. NWSC remains committed to upholding the rule of law and protecting its infrastructure in order to maintain efficient and reliable service delivery to its customers.

The Corporation also urges the public to report any incidents of water vandalism to the nearest NWSC branch or relevant authorities.
