NWSC SUPPORTS GIRLS’ EDUCATION WITH DONATION TO NGOMBERE LIGHT PRIMARY SCHOOL

The National Water and Sewerage Corporation’s (NWSC), Kampala Water region has contributed one million shillings towards the construction of a new girls’ dormitory at Ngombere Light Primary School in Mukono district. This donation, made on August 9, 2024, will foster educational development and address critical needs for the girls in the school.

The announcement of the donation was made during a fundraising event at the school, where Kampala Water’s representatives, including Ag. Plant Manager Mr. Godwin Wafula and Principle Human Resources Officer Mr. Julius Oyet, stood in for the General Manager, Eng. Mahmood Lutaaya. The event highlighted the pressing accommodation challenges faced by the school’s 500 pupils, particularly female students who have struggled with inadequate and unsafe housing options.

Mr. Oceng Christopher, the Director of Ngombere Light Primary School, expressed profound gratitude for NWSC’s support, and emphasized that the new dormitory would significantly enhance the educational experience of the students, particularly the girls, by providing them with a safe and conducive living environment. He noted that this initiative would not only address immediate accommodation issues but also contribute positively to the overall well-being and academic performance of the students.

In addition to the donation, the event provided an opportunity for the NWSC team to engage with the local community. Through educational sessions on the importance of using treated tap water with emphasis on the health risks associated with unsafe water sources. The team also discussed various tariff structures and the necessity of environmental conservation, reinforcing NWSC’s broader mission to promote public health and sustainable practices within the communities it serves.
