After months of hardwork and dedication, NWSC’s efforts to extend water to the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) Main Camp and Pipe Yard (MCPY-2) in Mubende are starting to bear fruit. This was witnessed today as NWSC started testing Phase 1 of the Project, which encompassed laying of a 2.7km pipeline from the existing water supply network to the camp.
While inspecting and testing the completed works, the NWSC Head Office Team, accompanied by the Mubende Area Team, were satisfied to witness water flowing at the EACOP site with sufficient flows and pressure. Preliminary results indicate that the installed infrastructure will be able to deliver more than 250,000 litres of water per day, and with pressure well above 10bars.
With the successful completion and testing of this Phase, and delivery of water to MCPY-2, the EACOP Civil Works Contractor can comfortably mobilise and commence on the early civil works for the Oil Pipeline.
In tandem, the Second Phase of the works, which entails reinforcing the existing water supply system to deliver the required 200,000 litres of water per day, is in advanced stages, with the following having been achieved so far;
1). Siting, drilling, and development of two boreholes in Kagoma and Kyeguluso – 100% complete.
2). Construction of Katabalanga Borehole Pump House – 100% complete.
3). Construction of Kagoma Borehole Pump House – 80% complete.
4). Supply and installation of 130,000 litre capacity storage reservoir at Kagoma hill – 100% complete.
5). Supply and laying of 10km of pumping and distribution mains pipelines ranging from OD90 to DN160mm – 100% complete.
Emphasis has now been put on expediting the supply and installation of electromechanical equipment, and extension of power extension to the respective sites.
It is planned to have the full scope of works under Mubende completed by the end of October 2023.
