NWSC STEPS UP SANITATION EFFORTS FOR MARTYRS DAY 2024 IN NAMUGONGO

As Namugongo readies itself to welcome thousands of pilgrims for the annual Martyrs Day celebrations on June 3rd, 2024, the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) is taking significant measures to ensure the highest standards of health and hygiene as the Sewerage Services Department (SSD), under the leadership of Senior Manager Eng. James Miro Maiteki, is mobilizing a dedicated team to provide seamless sanitation services at both the Catholic and Anglican Shrines and the surrounding areas.

Eng. Maiteki and his team have implemented a comprehensive plan to maintain sanitary conditions, which includes a series of key actions. Among these are the efficient management of septic tanks at both shrines to prevent overflow and maintain hygiene. Regular cleaning and unblocking of manholes are also being carried out to ensure smooth sewage flow, preventing any potential blockages.

In anticipation of the high influx of pilgrims, the SSD team is actively unblocking toilets to ensure they remain functional and hygienic throughout the celebrations. Additionally, regular inspections of sewer lines are being conducted to promptly address any issues, ensuring the sewage system operates without any hitches.

To further bolster their efforts, NWSC has established a 24-hour standby team, equipped to respond to any emergencies and uphold sanitation standards throughout the event.

“As pilgrims gather to honor the martyrs, they can rest assured that NWSC is working tirelessly behind the scenes to provide a clean and hygienic environment, allowing everyone to focus on the solemnity and significance of the occasion,” stated Mr. Maiteki while speaking to NWSC Digital Media.

Through these efforts, NWSC aims to ensure that the Martyrs Day celebrations in Namugongo proceed smoothly, with health and hygiene as a top priority, enhancing the experience for all who attend.
