Kampala Water’s Lubigi Sewerage Treatment Plant that serves the areas of North Kampala including; Bwaise, Kawempe, Kalerwe and Makerere with a capacity of 5000m3/day, is undergoing biannual desludging to ensure high quality effluent standards.

Desludging is a crucial aspect of sewage treatment plant operations as it; helps maintain the plant’s treatment capacity, prevents blockages and backups, reduces odors and pathogens, and recovers valuable resources (nutrients, organic matter, and energy, that can be recovered and reused in various ways).

The Senior Manager Sewerage Services Eng. James Miiro Maiteki carried out an inspection of the activity earlier today, which is currently at 60% and expected to be complete latest, by 19th March 2023.

Notably, this exercise is in line with the SSD Desludging Schedule 2023 and the sludge will be available as manure upon drying.

NWSC is committed to excellent sewerage services.
