A team from the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) earlier today met with the Deputy Mayor of Wakiso Town Council, Her Worship Barbara Nakato, at her office. The meeting, attended by Ms. Vivien Newumbe, Manager Public Relations for Kampala Water, and the Branch Manager for Wakiso Mr. Ronald Kiwanuka, was centred on the preparations for the upcoming community engagement event, the “Barraza.”

The NWSC team expressed their gratitude to the Deputy Mayor for the warm reception and began the discussion with an overview of the corporation’s ongoing stakeholder engagement initiatives. Ms. Newumbe highlighted the importance of understanding and meeting the evolving expectations of the corporation’s stakeholders, emphasising that consistent dialogue is key to this endeavour.

The residents have been informed about the upcoming tariff adjustments in line with NWSC’s guidelines, a necessary step to align with the national standards and ensure continued quality service. This collaboration is expected to yield mutual benefits, improving water and sanitation service delivery for Canaan Estates residents and enhancing business growth at NWSC’s Gayaza branch.

Drawing parallels between the Water Community Sensitization (WACOSE), a programme NWSC initiated in 2016 through which local leaders encouraged their communities to aid the corporation in its undertakings, and the Barraza initiative, Ms. Newumbe explained that the Barraza too aims to build rapport with community leaders and nurture a sustainable partnership to establish an effective and enduring bridge between NWSC and the community.

Her Worship the Deputy Mayor expressed her strong support for the initiative, and set a tentative date for the Barraza on September 5th, 2024, with final confirmation pending discussions with other stakeholders. The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to ensure the success of the Barraza, marking a promising step towards improved water and sanitation services in Wakiso Town.

The meeting adjourned with a commitment to making the Barraza a successful event which will guide the corporation in addressing community concerns and enhancing service delivery.
