NWSC believes that a well trained workforce is the cornerstone of improved service delivery. This has been demonstrated by prioritizing Skilling and workforce development as a key strategic priority area in the Corporations NWSC Corporate plan (2021-2024).

On 29th October 2021, NWSC completed a 3-week induction program for 46 engineers and 139 water technicians and as part of the program, the engineers underwent a patriotism training facilitated by the UPDF.

While engaging the inductees during the training program held at Kyambogo University grounds, the staff were reminded that patriotism is not about anything else but love for the country regardless of political affiliation. And as hence, NWSC is patriotic in delivering clean safe water for all Ugandans.

Eng. Dr. Silver Mugisha, the MD NWSC in his address congratulated the staff upon completion of the process. “This is a very important day, it’s very unique, and has never happened in the history of National Water to carry out an induction in partnership with NWSC, he said.

“With this kind of training, there are a number of objectives that were considered to be achieved, such as mind-set alignment, characterised by discipline, people that are committed, are resilient and understand their country, Uganda. More than 98% of the inductees successfully completed the training and will be deployed within Kampala Water and those that didn’t complete, will not be deployed until the training is completed. “ he added

NWSC has grown from 103 towns to 258 towns and its projected that in the next 5years growth should be to over 300 towns in Uganda. The network length has increased from about 12,000kms to 20,000kms and in the next 5years it should grow to 35,000kms which means more water to our people and more people connected to the NWSC system.  He cautioned the staff against engaging in illegal connections and encouraged them to de disciplined, delighted and resilient.

NWSC is a learning institution, challenges are changing as well as solutions are changing. In Kampala there is a challenge of high level of water loss, this is the entry point of the new staff. They are required to add value to NWSC and contribute towards addressing some challenges

Dr. Silver emphasised the need for the staff to be accountable, sustainable and transformative asking the new staff to change the way things are being done so as to ensure effective service delivery.

Regarding non-revenue water, he encouraged the staff to work towards managing the monster that’s eating up the corporations’ income especially through leakages, bursts and most especially through illegal connections that can be by the consumers or staff.

Christine Amucu, the Director Human Resources in her remarks, welcomed the new staff to the water family and also congratulated the new staff upon a successful competition of a series of stages, from application to induction. The team of staff that made it were picked from a large number of applicants of 3793. “We are truly confident that we have the right people for the job of service delivery,” she said

NWSC is open for all and is gender accommodative, while focusing on professionalism and performance and believes in growth of its staff. She encouraged the new staff to focus on key issues of accountability, integrity, performance and professionalism.
