Tree planting is one of the various ways of environmental conservation and is often carried out to benefit our future generations. Over the weekend, National Water and Sewerage Corporation kick started the NWSC GREEN REVOLUTION campaign at Kings College Buddo.
The drive is aimed at planting at least 10million trees across the country through various stakeholders including School Water and Sanitation Clubs(SWAS).
The tree planting event was officiated by the General Manager-Kampala Water Mr Mahmood Lutaaya who was accompanied by the Senior Manager Corporate Communications (SMCC), Ms. Sarah Namuwenge, Manager Call-Center (MCC), Mr. George Kasule and the Kyengera branch Manager, Mr. Moses Akanyijuka.
The Senior manager corporate communications, Sarah Namuwenge, sympathised with the teens at Kings college Buddo and offered words of encouragement following the recent fire outbreak at the school. She also encouraged the young stars to spread the SWAS message and advocate for more ambassadors from the school.
The GM-KW and guest of honor, Mr Mahmood Lutaaya, in the same spirit, sympathised with the school for the tragedy and encouraged the young ambassadors to keep nurturing and conserving the environment. He further widened the teens’ mind-sets, in an engaging quiz where he emphasized the need to preserve the existing forests and plant new trees for the future.
A good number of NWSC Staff from the NWSC Kyengera branch, Head office and KW-Center graced the event and over 500 trees were planted that afternoon on top of the over 1000 tress that had already been planted by the school’s SWAS Club.
Mr. Lutaaya echoed that NWSC dreams of a generation that protects and conserves water and the environment through young stars in such clubs as SWAS. “Our dream is to have a forest for every school and home, and a tree for every Ugandan,” Mr Mahmood Lutaaya said.
