In order to boost operational efficiency and mitigate risks, the National Water and Sewerage Corporation’s (NWSC) Internal Audit team executed a thorough examination of the Yumbe branch on Wednesday, August 21st, 2024. The audit, spearheaded by Mr. Gang Stephen, Manager of Internal Audit, was a move towards NWSC’s ongoing efforts to maintain high standards of governance and operational integrity across its areas and their branches.

The audit involved an extensive review of the branch’s operational framework, focusing on key areas such as risk assessment, compliance, asset management, and internal controls. By scrutinizing these critical aspects, the audit aimed to identify potential gaps and propose actionable recommendations that would align the branch’s operations with best industry practices.

Beyond the administrative aspects, the audit looked into the branch’s commercial and technical operations which included a detailed assessment of customer service protocols, billing procedures, and the efficiency of water treatment and distribution systems. This particular assessment sought to ensure that the Yumbe branch not only meets but exceeds the service expectations of its customers.

Another significant component of the audit was the site inspection of the Delo and Odugonga water production wells, during which the team meticulously examined the infrastructure, evaluated maintenance practices, and analyzed performance metrics. This hands-on approach allowed the auditors to gain a comprehensive understanding of the operational challenges and strengths of these critical water sources.

The audit received positive feedback from the Koboko/Yumbe Area management and staff, who demonstrated full cooperation throughout the process.

The findings and recommendations from the audit will be compiled into a report that will be presented to NWSC management. This report is expected to serve as a blueprint for enhancing the branch’s overall performance, ensuring that the Yumbe branch continues to provide reliable and efficient services to its customers while maintaining stringent compliance with regulatory requirements.
