NWSC INTENSIFIES BOREHOLE SITING IN KYENGERA TO BOOST WATER SUPPLY RELIABILITY

The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) has intensified efforts to improve water supply reliability in Kyengera following persistent service interruptions in parts of the area.

Acting on the strategic guidance of NWSC Managing Director Dr. Eng. Silver Mugisha, a technical team carried out an extensive field inspection to identify and assess potential sites for new boreholes aimed at strengthening water supply in the Kyengera service zone.

The inspection team was led by Eng. Francis Kateeba, Chief Manager Water Services, alongside Mr. Gilbert Muhwezi, Senior Manager Non Revenue Water, and Mr. Richard Mwesige, Network Engineer. They were joined by the Kyengera branch team, including Mr. John Lutwama, Senior Branch Manager Nsangi, and Mr. Alone Kiza, Branch Engineer.

The exercise began with a courtesy visit to the home of Ms. Sarah Namirembe, one of the customers previously affected by water supply interruptions in the area. The visit aimed to assess the effectiveness of recent temporary interventions introduced by NWSC to stabilize supply.

Ms. Namirembe welcomed the team and expressed appreciation for the improvements she had recently experienced at her residence.

During the visit, Eng. Kateeba advised her to install an immersible pump to facilitate efficient pumping of water to elevated storage tanks. He also explained the structured water rationing schedule currently being implemented to ensure that customers across the network receive equitable supply.

Pleased with the engagement, Ms. Namirembe commended NWSC for its responsiveness and commitment to addressing customer concerns.

Following the visit, the team proceeded to inspect several proposed borehole sites, including Bataka Nabbingo, Maya, and Nakirama Kasenge.

Each location underwent detailed technical assessment to determine its feasibility and potential contribution to improving supply in the area.

At the conclusion of the inspection, the team resolved that geological surveys be conducted at all three sites to determine their suitability for borehole drilling. The surveys are expected to be completed before the end of the week.

If the geological findings confirm viability and the sites meet the required drilling standards, the proposed boreholes are expected to significantly improve water supply in Bataka Town, upper Nabbingo, Mpirigisa, Busembe, Nazinga, Nakawuka Road, Nakirama, and surrounding communities.

The initiative forms part of NWSC’s ongoing efforts to strengthen water infrastructure and ensure reliable service delivery to growing urban communities in Wakiso District.
