The Bushenyi Water Supply Augmentation Project, also known as the Warugo Project, nears its final stages of construction, marking a significant milestone for the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC). With the completion of final tests by the contractor, anticipation mounts for the imminent handover of the project. However, NWSC is not resting on its glory, instead, it is actively strategizing to ensure the sustainability of this crucial infrastructure by safeguarding its water source.

Under the guidance of Eng. Innocent Twesigye and Mr. Osujo Moses from the NWSC’s headquarters, a pre-bid meeting was recently held at the water treatment plant in Nyakabingo, Kakanju sub-county, Bushenyi District. The meeting was characterized by the attendance of various companies and organizations eager to offer consultancy services to NWSC concerning water source protection. Among the notable participants were the Mitooma Women’s Dignity Foundation, the Uganda Citizens Alliance, the Youth Focus for Sustainable Development, JJ Community Transformation, and the Abahumuza Development Group.

Following deliberations, attendees were led to the intake site to gain firsthand insight into the River Warugo with the aim of shaping the forthcoming consultancy efforts. The selected bidder will undertake a comprehensive study to identify threats, pinpoint hotspots, and propose mitigation measures essential for the project’s long-term viability. This examination is slated to be completed within a timeframe of seven months.

The proactive stance adopted by NWSC hopes to meet immediate needs as well as safeguard the future of the water supply infrastructure, which clearly depicts the corporation’s resolve to navigate challenges effectively and ensure the reliability of its projects.

The Warugo Project embodies NWSC’s commitment to “Water for All”, and sustainable development.
