The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) has embarked on a rather significant endeavor to provide water services to the new Nwoya Prison in Anaka. With a population of over 200 staff and 240 inmates, the prison has grappled with water accessibility issues, prompting NWSC to intervene.

A specialized team comprising the NWSC Gulu Area Manager, Area Engineer, Branch Manager for Anaka, and Technical Supervisor, in collaboration with the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the prison, conducted an on-site inspection to oversee the progress of the project.

During the inspection, ASP Magoma Daniel, the OC, conveyed his appreciation to NWSC and its leadership for addressing the pressing water needs of the facility. The timely intervention is poised to alleviate the challenges faced by the prison community.

Recognizing the urgency of the matter, the Area Manager highlighted the importance of expediting the project to ensure prompt completion and connection of the prison to the water distribution network.

NWSC’s comprehensive plan entails the installation of over 5 kilometers of water pipeline to extend the water supply to the prison premises. Once operational, this expansion will significantly mitigate the water scarcity confronting the facility, enhancing the living conditions for both staff and inmates alike.

Note that the initiative aligns with NWSC’s broader mission of providing reliable water and sanitation services to all communities across the region. Therefore, in addition to addressing immediate water shortages, the project holds long-term benefits, fostering hygiene and sanitation practices within the prison environment.

As the project progresses, NWSC remains committed to transparency and accountability, ensuring that resources are utilized efficiently and effectively. Regular updates and consultations with stakeholders will facilitate smooth implementation and foster community ownership of the initiative.
