To enhance the expertise of its engineering workforce, the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) entered into a partnership with the IHE-Delft Institute for Water Education after signing a memorandum of understanding to deliver a tailored training programme for NWSC engineers, designed to enhance their skills in various aspects of water management.

Commencing in July 2024 and running through January 2025, this *MANDATORY* training programme will kick off with its first sessions on Thursday, July 18th, 2024, and Friday, July 19th, 2024. These initial sessions will start at 8:00 a.m. and run for five hours each, with a practical refresher on the fundamentals of water transportation and distribution. The first module will cover critical topics such as distribution system components, the hydraulics of piped water systems, pump station design and operation, and best practices in metre management.

Following the introductory module, subsequent training sessions will dive into more specialised areas. Engineers will gain in-depth knowledge of Non-Revenue Water (NRW) management, the design of piped systems, the optimisation of water treatment processes, and the management of wastewater and sanitation systems. This comprehensive curriculum is designed to address both current challenges and emerging trends in water management.

The first module of the training will be conducted online, with links and detailed programmes to be shared before the close of business today, July 16th, 2024. Whereas subsequent modules will be a blend of online and face to face at the International Resource Center (IREC) by facilitators from IHE. The official opening programme will be held at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 18th, 2024, to mark the beginning of an intensive but worthwhile journey for NWSC engineers.

As part of the programme, there will be an assessment and certification of engineers at the end of the course.  Management emphasizes the importance of thorough preparation for all participating engineers and encourages them to engage fully with the training to maximise its benefits and contribute to the overall success of this initiative.
