The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) has strengthened its collaboration with local industry through a strategic technical visit to Luwero Industries Limited (LIL) aimed at enhancing water infrastructure performance and improving service delivery across the country.
The NWSC delegation, led by Eng. Andrew Muhwezi, Chief Manager Water Production (CMWP), toured the LIL industrial facility to assess progress on ongoing works and deepen technical collaboration with the engineering team.
Welcomed by LIL engineers including Eng. Jackson Makanga, the visit focused on monitoring progress on a local purchase order for clear water pump fittings. The team reviewed production timelines, technical specifications, and quality standards to ensure the fittings meet NWSC’s operational requirements.
The engagement also provided an opportunity to address potential implementation gaps while reinforcing accountability and efficiency in project execution.
Engineers from both institutions also held discussions on harmonizing approaches to pump casing refurbishment, a critical process for maintaining and extending the lifespan of water supply equipment.
Through technical exchanges, the teams aligned on refurbishment methodologies aimed at improving equipment reliability, minimizing operational downtime, and optimizing maintenance costs within water production systems.
During the meeting, NWSC engineers also presented detailed material testing requirements to ensure strict compliance with quality assurance protocols. The discussions emphasized durability, safety, and adherence to engineering standards to support sustainable water infrastructure operations.
Eng. Muhwezi further highlighted the importance of improving bearing repairs and component design, noting that strengthening these areas would contribute significantly to operational efficiency and equipment longevity.
The visit concluded with a guided tour of LIL’s workshops and foundry, where the NWSC team gained firsthand insight into the facility’s manufacturing and engineering capabilities. Luwero Industries Limited operates as a subsidiary of the National Enterprise Corporation (NEC).
The engagement underscored NWSC’s commitment to strategic partnerships with local industry, aimed at strengthening infrastructure performance, promoting domestic manufacturing capacity, and enhancing reliable water service delivery for communities across Uganda.
Among those in attendance were Eng. Accram Nsubuga, Eng. Norbert Ogwal, Eng. Adrian Rugunda, and other technical staff from NWSC.
