Balancing work and personal life is essential for mental and physical well-being. It enhances job satisfaction, nurtures relationships, sparks creativity, and improves stress management. It is therefore no wonder that recently, the National Water and Sewerage Corporation’s Leaders Are Learners Book Club highlighted this notion during their 16th fellowship, centered around the theme: “Work-Life Balance: How to Excel in an Ever-Changing Work Environment.”
The keynote address was delivered by Ms. Shallon Mugabe, the founding partner of the Franklyn Institute of Leadership and Public Management. Mugabe’s lecture focused on three crucial areas: family, career, and faith. She posed a thought-provoking question to the audience, urging them to consider whether they see themselves as the primary or secondary characters in their own lives.
Mugabe emphasized the importance of having an action plan, setting goals, and defining values and priorities to achieve a balanced and fulfilling life. She highlighted the merits of effective communication in fostering abilities, adding that kindness, genuineness, and appreciation of others are vital in building strong relationships. She also stressed the necessity of seeking help when needed and maintaining daily schedules to manage tasks efficiently.
In her concluding remarks, Mugabe advised the attendees to prioritize humanity, communicate effectively, and set clear targets in life. This advice resonated deeply with the NWSC staff, who are now better equipped to embrace their strengths and prioritize meaningful connections.
This fellowship has empowered the NWSC team to engage positively with both customers and colleagues, fostering a harmonious work-life equilibrium. As they implement these strategies, they are self-assured to excel in both their professional and personal lives, setting a new standard for workplace well-being.
