The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) is no stranger to the significance of “Ramdan’s spirit of giving” which teaches the values of compassion, empathy, and generosity towards others. It is an opportunity for Muslims to put these values into action and to make a positive difference in their communities.

During the Annual Iftar celebrations at the corporation’s International Resource Center (IREC), NWSC donated UGX30 Million towards the renovation of the National Mosque located in Old Kampala. The donation was acknowledged by Dr. Sheikh Ziyad Swaleh Lubanga, the Director of Sharia Law, who represented His Eminence the Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubajje, on behalf of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council.

During the dinner, the NWSC-Managing Director, Dr. Eng. Silver Mugisha urged NWSC staff to dedicate the period of Ramadan to rethinking how they could reduce water loss, particularly in Kampala. Dr. Mugisha highlighted some of the challenges that NWSC faces, such as illegal water connections, physical losses, and unauthorized unbilled connections, for example, water used in firefighting.

The NWSC Board Chairman, Eng. Dr. Badru Kiggundu, thanked NWSC’s customers and stakeholders for their continued support and acknowledged the hard work of NWSC staff.  Dr. Kiggundu highlighted the lessons that could be learnt from Ramadan, such as patience, self-restraint, discipline, and diligence. He also stressed the importance of clean safe water reminding everyone that NWSC goes through a lot to provide this service and therefore, ought to be appreciated.

The event was presided over by the General Manager of Kampala Water, Eng. Mahmood Lutaaya, who rewarded NWSC’s customers with gifts organized by management. He noted that Ramadan is a time for spiritual rejuvenation, internal reflection, and praying to Allah for guidance and a good life.

The NWSC Iftar dinner was a testament to the Corporation’s commitment to its customers, stakeholders, and the community at large.
