In a significant achievement for the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), the corporation completed and handed over the Water Production Facilities for the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) Main Camp and Pipe Yard (MCPY-04) in Kakuuto, Kyotera. This accomplishment, set the stage for the commencement of civil works on the site and the establishment of the camp, paving the way for the initiation of the Oil Pipeline works.

Eng. Moses Kirumira, representing EACOP, expressed his delight while inspecting and receiving the completed project facilities. He commended NWSC for their unwavering dedication in ensuring the timely completion of the works. Kirumira also extended gratitude to NWSC Management, led by Dr. Eng. Silver Mugisha, for their visionary support of the Government of Uganda’s Oil and Gas development initiatives.

The Kakuuto component, boasting a production capacity exceeding 300,000 litres of water per day, encompasses various crucial elements whicj include; the siting, drilling, and development of two boreholes in Bigada and Kyakacwere, the construction of pump houses for these boreholes, and the supply and installation of a 100,000-litre capacity storage reservoir at Bigada Catholic Church. Additionally, over 7km of pumping and distribution mains pipelines, ranging from OD60 to DN110mm, were laid. The extension of 3Phase Power (3km) and the installation of transformers for the pump houses, along with the supply and installation of standby generators, form integral parts of this comprehensive water infrastructure project.

The MCPY-04 camp, designed to accommodate approximately 4,000 people, is expected to utilize about 200,000 litres of water per day. In a commendable move, NWSC will allocate the remaining 100,000 litres to the surrounding communities, contributing to the improvement of livelihoods in the area.

During the handover, the NWSC Head Office Team, in collaboration with the Kyotera Area Management, expressed satisfaction at witnessing water flowing at the EACOP site with ample flows and pressure. NWSC acknowledges the significance of this partnership and reaffirms its commitment to ensuring the sustainable operation of the completed facilities. This dedication is aimed at guaranteeing service reliability to MCPY-04 and the neighboring communities.

Notably, NWSC’s partnership with EACOP plays a vital role in facilitating the construction and subsequent operation of the Oil Pipeline by providing reliable water supply services for camps and pump stations.
