The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) Luwero Area Management team carried out a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) outreach at Butuntumula Prisons on May 8th, 2025. With them, they brought a message of compassion, purpose, and solidarity with inmates.

Led by Area Manager Mr. Daniel Mugoya, the team was joined by several NWSC staff members and Reverend Mukama Livingston, whose presence brought both spiritual and emotional reinforcement to the visit. Their mission was to provide encouragement, uphold dignity, and reaffirm that no life is beyond salvation.

Reverend Byamukama delivered an inspiring Gospel message centred on personal transformation and urged the inmates to view their current trials not as dead ends but as defining moments that could lead to meaningful change.

His prayers, steeped in empathy and strength, seemed to lay a foundation of restoration and purpose.

Addressing the inmates, Mr Mugoya encouraged them to make the most of their time in custody by engaging in skill-building activities that would serve them well upon release. He acknowledged the commendable sanitation practices within the facility and praised the prisoners for their spiritual dedication.

NWSC also handed over gifts to the prison community, an act aimed at reinforcing the message that the inmates remain valued members of society. “This gesture is a reminder that you are not forgotten,” said Mr Mugoya, “and that rehabilitation begins with knowing you still matter.”

Butuntumula Prison, located in Luwero District, currently houses 322 inmates, 52 of whom are women. The facility is under the leadership of Officer-in-Charge Mr Ocan Richard, supported by a team of 36 staff. Notably, most inmates are serving sentences for minor offences.

Mr Ocan expressed deep gratitude to NWSC’s top leadership and the Luwero Cluster for their continued outreach and support. He welcomed future collaborations, noting that unity between public institutions plays a critical role in building a better Uganda.

NWSC remains committed to “Water for All”.
