Ruhaama Area, where dedication meets excellence, hosted the National Water and Sewerage Corporation’s (NWSC) Board of Directors who got to witness a remarkable journey of triumph led by Area Manager Zidon Nkwatsibwe. The backdrop of assessing a team’s performance as a benchmark to great success set the stage for a celebration of achievements and a roadmap for future endeavors.

Zidon Nkwatsibwe, beaming with pride, boasted of his team’s unwavering dedication since the area’s inception, and went on to highlight their footprint across Ntungamo and Isingiro, boasting four branches and a service coverage of 51% in 139 out of 271 villages across 38 parishes. The impressive statistics continued, with a 96% collection efficiency, a 60% response rate, and an average billing of 40 million shillings.

Despite the success, the area does acknowledge that there are challenges; from power shortages at the Magara pumping station to the need for reliable transport hindering operational efficiency. However, these obstacles are met with resilience and determination.

Director Regional Operations, Eng. Edmond Okaranon lauded Zidon’s leadership, praising the expansion of the area office building and its inviting ambiance. In response to the aforementioned challenges, he pledged the board’s commitment to addressing them one by one.

The board members, in their address to the area staff, shared nuggets of wisdom, emphasizing the fight against Non-Revenue Water (NRW) standing at 15%. Staff welfare took center stage, with ongoing initiatives for salary, gratuity, and scale alignments fueled by improved revenue collections.

Encouraging personal growth, the board urged staff to plan for early retirement and invest in long-term assets as markers of individual and collective growth. The mantra of honesty, hard work, diligence, and focus was underscored as a catalyst for both personal and corporate success.

In closing, Acting Board Chairperson, Mr. George Runge commended the area staff’s stellar performance, emphasizing the goal of reducing NRW to a single digit. Identifying and nurturing talent within the team was highlighted as a significant strategy for achieving corporation success.
