The General Manager Kampala Water, Eng. Mahmood Lutaaya together with the Senior manager Kampala Eastern Zone (KEZ), Ms. Sarah Namuwenge recently met with an entourage from the Church of Uganda’s Church Commissioners Holding Company Limited which has the legal mandate of Church of Uganda (C.O.U) land, to streamline and harmonize the land where the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) has installations but belongs to the Church.
Reverend Jasper Tumuhimbise, the Chief Executive Officer of Church Commissioners Holding Company Ltd. was accompanied by the legal representative, Ms. Brenda Nabaasa; and Finance Manager, Mr. Brian Nyanzi, who had nothing but appreciation for the existing rapport between the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), and the church.
Central to the discussions was NWSC’s acquisition and usage of some of C.O. U’s land across the country, and the need to have an updated register of said land. The parties therefore agreed to survey all current and possible future sites for the NWSC installations, draw up an agreement, have all parties sign, and sign an MOU in alignment with the Partners’ Agreement. The set terms as per the Agreement and MOU will then guide all future Church land acquisition, and usage by NWSC. Notably, the agreement is scheduled to be signed by April 13th, 2024 for the respective properties.
In his capacity as the NWSC-Chairperson Land Management Committee that is given the mandate to ensure that all land on which NWSC installations are, is well secured and well managed, Eng. Lutaaya made sure that all parties were at a consensus.
Another notable aspect of the meeting was the Church of Uganda’s interest in joining forces with NWSC for a “greening” campaign aimed at nurturing the environment. This initiative was warmly embraced by Eng. Lutaaya and his team, as NWSC believes that tree planting is a crucial step towards ecological sustainability and responsible natural resource management which align seamlessly with the corporation’s overarching goal of ensuring Water for All.
Church of Uganda, the gift that keeps on giving then opened discussions on other opportunities where NWSC will be given free airtime to sensitize the masses via the church owned “Family TV”. This will strengthen the rapport between the corporation and the church as a means to enhance NWSC service provision to all church installations across the country, as well as aid NWSC’s mission and vision.
