NEW MASTER PLAN SET TO REVOLUTIONIZE KISORO’S WATER SUPPLY

In an effort to strengthen water service delivery in Kisoro, Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Hajj. Ssebyala Badru paid a courtesy visit to the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC_ Kisoro offices where he met with the Area Manager, Charles Ateker. During their discussion, Hajj. Ssebyala Badru expressed gratitude for the reliable water supply in Kisoro, praising the quick response from the water service team. He then demonstrated his commitment to the community by acknowledging his water bill and pledging to clear it immediately.

Mr. Ateker provided an update on the newly approved Master Plan by the Ministry of Water and Environment (MWE), which aims to enhance the region’s water supply infrastructure. This comprehensive plan includes several key projects poised to transform Kisoro’s water system. Among these initiatives is the construction of a new clean water treatment plant at Lake Mulehe, which will significantly increase the region’s capacity to provide potable water.

The plan also includes the construction of several reservoirs to ensure a consistent water supply even during peak demand periods. Upgrades to the Chuho and Nkanka Water Treatment Plants (WTPs) are set to improve efficiency and water quality, while new electrical accessories at Nkanka will complete and commission a surface pump to serve as a standby, enhancing supply reliability. Additionally, the ongoing construction of the Nkanka Bunagana transmission mains DN150 aims to improve the distribution network further.

The discussion also highlighted the importance of timely payments to prevent arrears accumulation. Mr. Ateker emphasized that ensuring prompt bill payments is essential for maintaining the financial health of the water services and guaranteeing uninterrupted service delivery.

Both parties agreed that the Ministry of Water and Environment’s Master Plan and the dedication of NWSC coupled with the support of local leaders, Kisoro’s water supply is set to improve significantly, promising a brighter and more reliable future for the region.
