MWE INAUGURATES KAYUNGA-BUSAANA WATER SUPPLY AND SANITATION SYSTEM PHASE II

Commissioner Urban Water Supply and Sewerage Services Department, Eng. John Twinomujuni, officially commissioned the Kayunga-Busaana Water Supply and Sanitation System Phase II in Kayunga District. The technical commissioning event was attended by Ministry of Water and Environment officials, contractors, consultants, Kayunga District leadership, community members, and the media.

The construction of this vital water supply system was carried out by the Ministry of Water and Environment as part of the Strategic Towns Water Supply and Sanitation Project. The project received funding from the African Development Bank, which was secured by the Government of Uganda.

The Kayunga-Busaana Phase II water system aims to extend the water supply to several areas, including Busaana, Kiwangula, Bubajjwe, Kaazi, Kayunga Town Council, and Bukolooto. The system is expected to serve a growing population, with an initial estimated population of 126,583 in 2020 and a projected population of 228,650 by 2040.

The construction of the system was contracted to M/s Vambeco Enterprises Ltd, with project supervision provided by M/S Egis Eau in association with Alliance Consultants Ltd.

Upon completion, the system was handed over to the Umbrella of Water and Sanitation-Central for Operation and Maintenance, ensuring its sustainability and efficient functioning.

This commissioning marks a significant milestone in improving water supply and sanitation services in the Kayunga District. The Kayunga-Busaana Phase II water system will enhance the quality of life for the residents in the region, providing access to clean and reliable water. It represents a successful collaboration between the government, funding agencies, contractors, and consultants, working together to address the critical water needs of the community.

Overall, the inauguration of the Kayunga-Busaana Water Supply and Sanitation System Phase II signifies a step forward in the development of sustainable water infrastructure and reinforces the commitment of the Ugandan government to ensure access to safe water for all its citizens.
