he 1992 Uganda’s Accession to the UN-Water Convention and the UN WaterCourses Convention workshop was officially opened by the Minister of Water and Environment, Hon. Sam Cheptoris.
The general objective of the workshop was to inform stakeholders about the Water Convention, share the processes initiated by the Government of Uganda to become party to the Water Convention and discuss the next steps in the accession process.
Notably, the workshop focused on; Presenting the initiatives started by the Ministry of Water and Environment as part of Uganda’s accession process to the Water Convention, informing stakeholders about the Water Convention, discussing the next steps and road map in the accession process and the contribution of this process to Uganda’s Transboundary and National water management, discussing the practical implementation of the Water Convention to meet the challenges of water resource management in Uganda based on the experience of existing Parties and, informing about the accession process, benefits and implementation by new African Parties.
The momentous event was attended by the Government of Uganda Delegation, Regional Organizations, European Union Delegation, United Nations Delegation, Donors, Academia, International Experts, Nile Basin Initiative Secretariat, Civil Society Organizations and the Media.
