MINISTER OF STATE FOR WATER LAUNCHES THE BOREHOLE DRILLING AND RESERVOIR TANK UNDER KLT – EWSIP

Following the launch of the Kalungu and Lusango Towns Emergency Water Supply Improvement Project (KLT-EWSIP), intended for water supply stabilization in Kalungu area on 21st August 2021 under Phase 1 and 2, the State Minister for Water, Hon. Aisha Sekindi launched the Reservoir Tank in Lusango and 2 boreholes in Bulingo and Kasokengo villages, in November 2021.

The Phase 1 works are scheduled to be undertaken within 6 months from the date of project launch and the interventions focus on primary infrastructure needed for improved reliability of water supply in the towns of Kalungu and Lusango with a planned extension to the neighboring Rural Growth Centers. 

The launch was hosted by NWSC’s Kalungu Area led by the Area Manager, Ms. Sharon Athieno with support from the General Manager Masaka Area, Eng. Emmanuel Mujuni, Principal Human Resource Officer, Olive Enid Nabiryo, Principal Internal Auditor, Byansi Robert and the staff of Kalungu Area.

Eng. Emmanuel Mujuni during his communication, discussed the scope of the on-going project works thus; Replacement of 3,150m length along Kasakango Valley with PVC DN150 PN16 on firm soils and installation of concrete pedestals to cross 450m length Kasokengo, acquisition of land for drilling and development of 2 boreholes, land acquisition for construction of 100m3 Lusango Reservoir, drilling and development of the 20m3/hr to 30m3/hr at Bulingo and Kasokengo, construction of 600m PVC DN150 transmission main for the 30m3/hr borehole source to sump and 350m of HDPE DN80 PN16 transmission 20m3/hr to sump, installation of 50m3/hr surface high lift pump at Bukulula Sump, construction of 100m3 reservoir tank at Lusango Hill, 2km of PVC DN100 PN16 transmission main to Lusango Reservoir and PVC DN150 PN10, return distribution mains to Lusango town, and finally, laying of 5km HDPE DN50 PN10 distribution network in Lusango town. 

In her speech, the Honorable Minister was appreciative of the people of Kalungu for their positive attitude towards the development of the District by welcoming the water supply project. She recognized the NWSC’s Managing Director, Dr. Eng. Silver Mugisha and NWSC team at large for the great works in quickening the project and service of the people. She also thanked the MP and his team for accepting to partner with her in the developments for the good of the people despite their political differences.

She assured NWSC of free air service to address the people on Kalungu Radio FM in regard to the water services and she concluded by reechoing the different water tariffs of NWSC. Tariffs designed to cater to each and every Ugandan fairly.

The beneficiaries include the towns and villages of; Buggwa, Buseke, Byana, Kaliiro, Kigoonya, Kiranga, Kyamusasala, Kyamusoke, Kisimba, Kiweesa, Lusango Town, Mulo, Bubemba, Butongo, Buyiikuuzi, Ddanda, Lugasa, Lusasa, Muge, Mwota and, Lutente

 

Other guests present include; Resident District Commissioner, Caleb Tukaikiriza, MP Kalungu East, Katabazi Francis Katongole, LC V, Nyombi Mukiibi Kamadu, District Speaker, Allen Lwanga , LC III, Bazade Kaweesa among others.
