The Kyankwanzi Water Supply Project is advancing steadily towards its anticipated completion, following significant progress in recent months. A monthly progress meeting held on August 22nd, 2024 followed by thorough site inspections, confirmed that the project is on the verge of entering its final stages.

The project, which is set to enhance water access for over 17 villages in the Kyankwanzi area, comprises multiple critical components including; the Raw Water Booster Station (Package 1) which has seen the completion of essential civil works, including the construction of a staff house, water sump, generator shed, and septic tank. The remaining tasks involve landscaping and the installation of pumps and surge vessels, which are expected to be finalized in the coming weeks.

In parallel, the Water Treatment Plant (Package 2) has reached a significant milestone, with all civil works and electromechanical installations completed. The project team is now focused on the installation of chlorine and alarm dosing units, essential for ensuring the safety and reliability of the treated water supply.

The Treated Water Pipeline (Package 3) is another area where substantial progress has been made with all necessary pipes delivered and laid to the reservoir tank, establishing a vital link between the treatment plant and the communities it will serve. Meanwhile, the Water Reservoir (Package 4) has been fully constructed, with water tightness tests successfully conducted, ensuring the integrity of the structure.

A team of representatives from NWSC, the contractor, supervising engineers, and the Kyankwanzi Area team conducted site visits to assess the progress and quality of workmanship. These inspections confirmed that the project remains on track for completion by September 26th, 2024.

However, some challenges were noted during the visits, and efforts are underway to address these issues through close collaboration among all stakeholders.

Once operational, the Kyankwanzi Water Supply Project will benefit several villages, including; Nalukonge, Kagali/Mpekoni, Muyenga, Nteyera, Kyanyamwenge, Lubiri, Kyalajoni, Kololo, Kanywamahuli, Banda, Kumusalaba, Kumusanvu, Akaapa, Biloboka, Gaala, Kyamukweya, and Rwengajju. The project is expected to significantly improve the quality of life for residents by providing reliable access to clean water.

The Kyankwanzi Area team has expressed their sincere gratitude to NWSC’s top management and the regional team for their unwavering support throughout the project.
