A team from Kampala Water earlier today impressively represented the National Water and Sewerage Corporation at the Makerere University’s College of Engineering, Design, Art, and Technology (CEDAT) Open Day Exhibition. Responding to an invitation from the institution, Ms. Viviene Newumbe, the Manager Public Relations-KW expertly put together a team comprised of Water Production, Water Quality, Sewerage Services, Asset Management, Customer Relations, and Public Relations as the face of the corporation.
The exhibition was part of the 3-Day CEDAT Open day which commenced on February 28th, 2024 and closed today, March 1st, 2024.
The KW team showcased its art and design in the exceptional exhibition tent ensemble by the masterminded Ms. Newumbe, and second to none professional customer engagement/management as the Public Relations and Customer Relations team handled customer complaints, queries, and compliments. The engineers then owned the entire exhibition as they vividly and clearly explained the processes of water production, and wastewater treatment, as well as Mapkit, and the Computerized Maintenance Management System.
Because, how else will they know the genius that is the workforce of the NWSC.
Most popular to all, was the sewerage services “waste to wealth” exhibit manned by Eng. Abraham, who went ahead to explain how NWSC’s Sewer Services Department has taken waste utilization a step further by generating both heat and electrical energy through biogas (as a utilization mechanism of the treated waste), which innovation not only contributes to energy sustainability but has also resulted in significant cost savings for NWSC.
The water production team led by Eng. Quinton Ssebagala showcased the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) which as he demonstrated is used for monitoring and management of the Equipment Maintenance procedures and scheduling. This was developed by the team at Katosi Drinking Water Plant (KDWTP), and has been extended to the Ggaba Water treatment plant.
Mr. Isaac Ssenyonjo, and Manager Paula impressed the revelers with their presentation on the Mapkit Application and explained how effective it is in aiding response to bursts, leakages, and evaluation of various field teams.
The multitudes that crowded the NWSC exhibition tent include; Engineering students, aspiring engineering Secondary students, Lecturers, other company exhibitors, and more.
Notably, Makerere University College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology last held this event in 2021 but compelled by teamwork, financial support and passion of the students, it has been revived in 2024, and one can only hope that it becomes an annual event.
